One of the most exciting parts of doing a bathroom remodel is changing out antiquated features for new ones. The same is true for the toilet. There are so many beautiful models available now with unique features that you just might feel a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. Here are a few tips for taking the stress out of the decision.
- Color – Ever since the advent of indoor plumbing, there has been one fad color after another when it comes to choosing a toilet. Remember avocado green and harvest gold from the 1970s? Perhaps you think fondly of those colors and are looking to do a retro look, but if not, you’ll still have plenty of colors to choose from. If you want to be sure your bathroom remodel remains more timeless, there is still the reliable white. You can even go extravagant and get a golden “throne”!
- Bowl Shape – For the most part, you have two choices for the toilet bowl shape – round front and elongated, although there are a few manufacturers making a compact elongated for those who may not have the space for a full elongated bowl shape. An elongated bowl is about two inches longer and thus provides additional comfort, so this is becoming quite popular. There are also some designer toilet shapes if you are looking for something truly unique.
- Height – For many years, the height of a toilet was pretty standard, and the only option was to go with one rated for disability. However, it is becoming quite popular to go with a higher seat for improved comfort. It has been renamed “comfort height” for this reason. This type of toilet is about two inches taller.
There are plenty of different features also, such as dual flush and power flush, as well as water conserving models.
